I watched an interesting movie

This past weekend, I watched The Seventh Seal

It's not a thriller, comedy, or romantic movie. In fact, it belongs to a dead genre.

Can you guess the genre?

If you thought silent films, you were off. The dead genre is existentialism.

Because I like to pretend to be profound, I watch these types of movies. And, like usual, they deliver a message I wasn't expecting.

This film was interesting as it tackled the themes of death and the silence of God during turbulent times.

However, the biggest takeaway from the film is how one meaningful action can validate your life.

And the frustrating part about this is that you will have to spend years trying and failing for it.

There will be no guidance.

There will be no hints.

There will be no planning.

That meaningful action will come in the most random way, and that's the beauty of it. You can't plan a meaningful life. All you can do is be authentic, question yourself and life, and take action. Then, one day, it will all make sense.

Now, I know this sounds jibberish.

But as the ancient Chinese philosophers used to preach, you can't force The Way.

And that's the same for a meaningful life.

Until next time,

P.S. If you're looking for another tremendous existential film, Ikiru by Akira Kurosawa.
